Okay, I totaled my beloved volvo 850 turbo(13.5 sec 1/4 mile..it was a great first car), so I just got a mazda protege lx 1.6 ltr. I-4 for free. Its slow, but only has 20,000 miles on it. What is the easiest way to make it fast? I do not wan't to rice it out. I just want it to perform at a superior level. I have $3,000 to enhance it. Can a turbo be put into one of these? Any input would be appreciated.

 

For 3 grand you could probably find a turbo kit for it...provided you can install it yourself. Go to protegegarage.com and see what they have.
