Exclamation Help! Rear disc parking brake adjustment screw fell out!

Hey first post thanks for the shouts. On to business....

I changed my friend's rear brakes on his 2002 Mazda Protege5.

I understand there is a 14mm cap bolt hiding a 4mm allen screw that must be adjusted to keep the parking brake working after a brake pad change.

I took the caps off both sides and adjusted the screws. I went for a test drive and when I got back, one adjustment screw (4mm allen in head) had fallen out.

I tried to get the other one out so I could go find a new one and compare. It would not come out, after an hour of un-threading.

I need to get a picture of that screw, a schematic, photo, technical description (length, threads, etc) or ANYTHING to help me get another screw.

My friend is worrying that his car is going to break and I need to fix it ASAP. It's saturday so the dealers are closed.

If I get a description of that screw, I can buy another from a hardware store.

I have searched the internet for parts diagrams, but I cannot find any decent ones. I guess honda schematics are more popular.

Thanks so much everyone!

I broke mine this week pulling it out, didn't even turn on it hard. I just bought a new caliper.

I have purchased and installed a new whatever-that-part-is-called and it has fixed the problem.

26.07usd from the mazda dealer if anyone is curious.

Thanks mazdaforum

Many years later, but for anyone else who stumbles upon this thread:

The adjustment screw/bolt inside the protege rear caliper, the one with a socket for a 4 mm Allen key on the top of it and splines on the bottom, hidden behind a 10M bolt which takes a 14MM socket-

Is able to freely move in the longitudinal direction by design. If you accidentally pull this adjustment screw out of the caliper, you do not need to replace the caliper. All you need to do is push it back in. The splines on the adjustment screw turn a screw inside the caliper to move the piston in and out.
