Haynes Manuals - difference between 2000 and 2003 protege book?
My GF has 2001 Mazda Protege DX, I wasn't happy when she bought it but 9 months later it hasn't had a single problem. Until yesterday when check engine light came on and AutoZone scanned it and said EGR valve needs replacing (any chance its just the sensor? ) So I wanted to get the Haynes Manuel but there are 2, one is for 323 and Protege from 1990 to 2000 and other one goes up to 2003 but looks same otherwise. My theory: After they wrote the book they realized the next 3 years of the Protege were pretty much the same so they just changed the cover. Or am I wrong? Wanted to buy on ebay, but everytime I click a link advertising the 2003 book, the picture shows the 2000 one.

To sort of answer both response.... AUTOZONE should have only shown what they found for the DTC(Diagnostic Trouble Codes) and maybe in a service manual what those codes represent. But they should NOT have definitively said that any specific part needed to be replaced. Unfortunately, even on forums like this many "JUMP" to the first conclusion based on what they get for a DTC without could testing and evaluation before replacing a suspected part. This not only could and can create more issues it slows down finding the real problem.
But I do enjoy when customers bring their vehicles in for se4rviceing a problem and tell me what is wrong with it and what needs to be changed based on the DTC they find on the cell phone and blue tooth devise. LOL
