Exhaust system loud noise need help
Hi everyone,
We have 95 protege LX. Exhaust is making a loud noise all of a sudden.
It kind of sounds like race cars do . When in idle it's just a low grumbling
noise but if you press the gas it gets louder.
So is it safe to drive the car till the weekend and then get it checked?
I've been reading about it and they say that if it's just a leak in the system
it's safe but there's also a chance that something can be broken and then it's dangerous
to drive it.
If I get under the car and look can I spot a breakage? If so what should I be looking for?
Just an inexperienced quick check under the car seems to indicate that the noise is coming from the muffler (at least I think, it's that big cylindrical that's right before the end of the exhaust pipe ) thing.
Thanks a bunch for your help in advance!

If you can't see a hole, you may be able to hear where sound comes from.
Another thing to look for is an area of BLACK on the outside of the pipe. This black area surrounds the leak.
If something is ready to fall off, then it's a hurry situation (or you could wrap a steel coat hanger around it and to something else under the car).
Only real problem is if it's ready to fall off------then when it does and you back up catching it and wrecking more stuff.
