I am helping my son put an engine and transmission into his 91 Protege LX. The engine is from a '92 Protege, and is the DOHC 1.8L. Even though the engine we are replacing is also a DOHC LX (with a bad rod knock), apparently there is some differences when ordering timing belts, gaskets, etc. We have been asked the engine serial number, but have been unable to find it anywhere on the block.

Does anyone know where the engine serial number is located????

Try looking on the exhaust manifold side back near where the transmission bolts up. Drawing below should help.
