Does it have a distributor?

RE: Does it have a distributor?
If you do not see a distributor on the end of the cyl head, then spark must be controlled by the computer by way of the cam and crank angle sensors. Just follow the plug wires, if you do not see the distributor cap right there, it is called "distributorless" ignition.

No, neither of the Protege engines from 99 have a distributor. Since you have a DX I am assuming you have the 1.6l ZM engine which would use 2 coil on plug system with a connecting wire for mating cylinder.

In that case, does anyone know where I should put the green wire of a tachometer in my car (the one you connect to the ignition coil if you have a distributor)?
And yes, I do have a 1.6L engine.

The only place you can really try to tap in for a tach signal would be at the data link connector under the hood. It is a small gray box with DIAGNOSIS printed on the top and is located to the rear of the left front strut tower. Turn the box over and look for a wire that is Violet with a White stripe. This should be the tack signal from the PCM. The wire should be at the front of the connector and between two other wires. A Brown with Yellow stripe and solid Black.
