Default CV Joint question

1993 Mazda Protege DX.

The driver side axle broke a few months ago and it was replaced.
While doing some other work, I grabbed a hold of the passenger side one just to give it a feel. The CV at the transmission seems to wiggle a little if you grab the drive shaftit and pull on it back and forth vertically (toward yourself if laying under). Not getting any play in it if I twist, just a mild wiggle. Local tire shop says this is normal for that joint.
Any input? I didn't think any wiggle was normal. I also have a 2002 that I'll crawl under tonight just to see if it does the same.

Thanks!

Default RE: CV Joint question

if it just wiggles a little bit (i think that the tolerance is about 1/32 of an inch) than it is alright. if it has back and forth play (in other words, you are sitting facing the side of the car through the wheel well, and it goes towards and away from you) then it is starting to go. i have never had a problem knowing when the CV joints were about to go in my cars. they usually start to chirp when i am making a right turn at the light. if that is not going on, you should be golden.

Sounds good. Thanks for you help on that one. I'll just keep an eye and ear on it and see how it goes.
