Default custom trans gearing?

Ive got a 98 Protege ES 5-spd - looking to change some of my gear ratios a bit. Has anyone done this? Any ideas where I could get the gears fabricated? I checked at some local shops and they all told me I'd have to get them fabricated elsewhere, and they could rebuild the trans, but the search for doing such has given me nothing. Crap choices for machine shops around here, too...

if you can find a gtx tranny, you can swap the first, third, and fifth gears into your tranny and it will re-gear it. the gears are also stronger than stock.

nice...i'll look into that...ideally i'd like my 5th to go to about .6:1 - i did the math on it, that'll bring top speed from 140 to 180 =p. a .5:1 will bring it to 210 - all of this theoretical, of course, as the torque to get there would be a whole other issue.
