My 03 lx will go into park, but it wont be in park. It just acts as though its in neutral. Has anyone else experienced this, and if so what did you replace. Any help would be great.

 

forgot to mention that the tranny is not slipping or acting funny, it just wont lock the wheels.

 

My friend had that happen to them once, but they drove several miles with the e-brake on. Don't know if you did that or not.

any one had this issue? not sure how to fix it for good.

 

Don't know your car, but Mazdas having a cable linkage between the shift lever and transmission develop an indexing problem where the lever is in the gate, but the switch on the transmission is not in the corresponding position due to progressive wear at the bends between the cable and its surrounding jacket. Fortunately the arrangement can be re-indexed provided the wear is not excessive; the procedure involves a simple adjustment at the transmission switch end.
I hope that's all the problem turns out to be.
This is one of the gadzillion reasons why I won't touch automatics with a barge pole.

 

ill try that out next time it does it. It stopped doing it for now.

 

I think the problem is in the gear box. Check that.

 

its not doing it now, so gotta wait till it does it to figure it out. Have found that when the problem does work that the o/d switch on the shifter also doesnt work.
