Default better mileage

alrite im new here, i have a 98 protege 1.5l its my work car. i get pretty good mileage already, 28-30mpg ranger, just wondering if i can increase it a lil with a few mods. i was thinking air intake and exhaust would that help? what about better plugs or wires? i have an old 12" long glasspack that is a 3" inlet/outlet, if i modify it to fit would this be a good substitute to an aftermarket muffler? i dont wanna spend too much money on it like i said its just to drive to work, its a lil beat up and dented from a storm but it runs good and the ac works any info would be a big help

The good news is that it's an odds on bet that if you perform any of those mods your fuel economy will go down, not up. If you want the best mileage out of your car, leave it alone and keep your foot out of the pedal, and both of those are free.

tune-ups are your best bet. i have had really good mileage with bosch-platinum +4 plugs, stock wires, Lucas fuel treatments, and an oil treatment called Marvel Mystery oil. i wouldn't do the oil treatment if you are over 80k miles. it may find some leaks.

Stay as is, maintain it properly. Below 50 mph. use the windows rather than the air conditioner, and most important of all, maintain your tire pressures.
'99 Protege LX 1.8L Fp engine, 5sp. 6.6 liters/100 km.
Geez that sounds dull, doesn't it?
