Accelaration Problem with AC on
I'm new to this forum so please bear with me. I own a 2003 Protege 1.6L DOHC Automatic. The problem i'm having is that while driving with AC on if i try to accelerate quickly the car seems to bog down and you can hear and feel it from the engine as if it doesn't want to shift gears. However if i press gas slightly and let the car accelerate gradually then no problem. This only started happening about 2-3 weeks ago. Cleaned injectors, throttle body and air filter , also changed oil. Could this be bad driving habits or a tranny or fuel delivery issue, MAF or IAC. I would appreciate any ideas or advice i can get.
did CEL light up? And, if the CEL came on, what are the codes. Can get codes from autozone or advance auto or any car part store.
Does AC work okay? Did you check the plugs? Does the engine perform measurably better with AC off? The 1.6L engine doesn't have head-snapping accel to begin with, how much do you lose with AC on?

NO CEL!!! The ac just hogs the engine. For example if ac is on and going up a hill and i floor the gas the engine will take a long time to actually get the rpm up. Without ac the "kick-down" works great. I don't have to floor it i just press a little harder and the gear drops and i get the rpm to go up hill faster.
I guess it's the tranny and the 1.6L. PPL with the 1.6L and gearbox don't have this prob!
