Default 2003 Protege - wouldn't reverse by itself

Hello, we have a 2003 Protege that we bought used about 2 years ago and it has had many problems. We previously had a 92 Protege that worked perfect until it died...

Problem:
I first noticed a slight problem when I put the car into park and tried to turn the car off. It wouldn't let me, so I reversed for a second, and than put it back into park. I could then turn the car off.

The car wasn't used for a week, and I forgot about the incident. When I tried using the car the next time, I put the car into reverse and it wouldn't back up automatically or with the pedal slightly pressed. I put it into drive and drove forward for a second, and then tried to reverse again. It still didn't do it automatically. I than pressed on the pedal (had to apply more force than usual) and I heard a pop sound and the car then reversed.

I backed up halfway out of the driveway, but I noticed that the car was leaking (from the front of the car)...so I parked the car, and drove away in the Camry. I haven't touch the Protege since.

Any advice, help, or similar experiences would be appreciated.

Default !

Your transmission fluid is really low. When it is low your cars transmission will start to slip and will not back up by its self or forward. It also sometimes will not go in gear. Check your transmission fluid level. I guarantee its low because of the leak you saw
