2003 Mazda Protege Driver Door Lock Issue
Hello...I replaced my actuator but it is not engaging with the lock. The actuator works with the remote but the lock does not move up or down. If I use a key to manually unlock it the lock works. However, if I am inside I have to unroll the window and unlock for door handle to get out. What am I missing?
The door latch is typically connected to the inner door handle, the outer door handle and the lock actuator with a metal rod. The rods are held in place with a small plastic clip. Sounds like one came off. You need to remove the door panel and have a look. Post pictures if you're uncertain what goes where.
You were right! I ended up replacing my whole door assembly instead of just the actuator. All the electrical components are working just fine now. The only issue I am having is, I can not unlatch the door from the outside once its closed. I can pull the door handle on the inside and it opens. I am thinking I don't have the rods set in right. I replaced the orange plastic clip that attaches lock rod to the door cylinder lock and kind of tore up the white clip that holds the threaded rod but seems it is holding. Are the rod suppose to be set a certain way? It's been frustrating since everything I see on youtube doesn't go over this, they say just set the rods back and make sure your latch works. LOL...urgh...I know I'm so close but can't figure out what I am doing wrong.
Yeah, there's a few rods in there. I think one is thicker and should come from the inside door handle to the latch.
Pull on the outer handle and look up inside to see if the rod is moving. Also move the lock button up and down.
You can use a screwdriver to close the latch without closing the door so you can access and see everything better.
