Default 2001 protege lx 2.0 wont stop sputtering

ok so this has been going on for about a month now.. every time i try to accelerate it sputters til about 2500 rpms my check engline came on and it said bank 1 o2 sensor 1 so i bought 2 sensors and replaced them both. im still getting the same thing sputter and everything. my air/fuel ratio guage is reading rich all the way just sitting there it doesnt move. did i get a bad o2 sensor or what? its just not making any sense. i want to take it in but if it is just a bad o2 sensor i will have to pay like 80 bucks just for them to look at it. any ideas?

it sounds like a cylinder is either fouled with no ignition or an injector is stuck. the reason you are getting that code is because the o2 sensor is getting saturated.

pull the spark plugs after you run it for a minute and see if any of the plugs are wet. that will be your suspect.

ok so if they arent wet do u think it might be the o2 sensor? because ok i know this is gonna sound dumb. but i bought an o2 sensor and had to cut it and attach it to the old o2 sensor plug cuz it didnt fit and since there was 2 black wires i might have connected one of the blacks to the wrong black. but after that i got one that was a direct fit. so do u think i could have fried something?
