Default 1999 Oil Pressure Sensor replacement

Hi all;
I have a `99 1.6l automatic Protege.
Does anyone have advice about replacing the oil pressure sensor (which I understand is on the back side of the engine?)

Thanks for your help,
Barry

Default two oil pressure sensors

Hi;
I crawled under the car today, and sure enough, there is a sensor above the oil filter on the back side of the engine.
I am wondering if there is a second sensor? The dealer claims there is another one, and the parts diagram for the 99 protege shows a sensor to be located on the front right (driver side) of the top end. However, all I can see there is the electrics for the spark plugs...
Any additional thoughts?
Thanks,
Barry

Barry,

The service manual I have shows one and only one oil pressure switch which is the one you located near the oil filter. Removal and replacement is straightforward. The manual recommends a light coat of silcone sealant on the threads (doesn't specify a particular type, but obviously it needs to be oil resistant). Tightening torque is 9-13 ft-lbs.

BTW - I have a 99 w/ 1.6 also.

Hope this helps...

J

Default wire

Hi, I never did replace mine.
However, I did notice the wire terminal was very hard to remove.
I suggest you don't worry, and just cut the wire. Have a new terminal available for the new switch, and crimp it on...
