i have a 96 dx and the motor has started a knock and has 250k+ miles i was looking to do a swap and then boost it but i dont know where to start any help its greatly appreciated

getting the motor would be a start you can basicly go anywhere auto wreaker, JDM Advance Motor Import: Mazda Motors, just bascily search jdm motors for sale on google there are ton's of sites. But if you can i would look into getting one of the miata's turbo motors and doing a swap because with a stock motor like yours and planning on turboing it the ecu will only do stock motors you can't turbo a car and run it off the same ecu the only way you can is getting a piggy back engine manager from apexi or greddy or hks anyone and those set you back a good 1300$ so your best bet is to get the miata turbo motor that includes everything they ususally come with the turbo,mainifold,waterpump,ecu, ect. the only thing you would have to look at doing that way is re wiring your harness's.
