Default 1992 protege motor question

Hey guys, I just bought a 92 protege from a kid who thought that he blew up the engine. i was looking around to find a new motor however i cant find any SOHC 1.8 liter motor for that car. All that i can find on ebay and anywhere are 1.8 liter DOHC. i was also looking around and it said that you can only get DOHC in the LX model(which it is) so whats going on here? did they offer the SOHC in LX? and also would i just need to put in a new computer if i got a DOHC motor? also what is the difference in the vin number, like some of them have 2,3,4,5,8 and so on. can the motors be swaped between them?

Check out what I sent in the "New Members area. Oh yeah, it is possible to put a DOHC in a DX, but its a lot of work.

the lx models only had the dohc engines or the bp. the dx had the sohc engine or the b8. your car is probably the dx. maybe the previous owner changed decals. is is faily easy to change the engine to the dohc engine. the blocks are the same, only the head is different. if you do decide to put a bp in, i would recommend that you put a g series tanny in as well. the f series that you probably have in there are is not that great.

just my 2 cents,

prakash
