Default 17"X6.5 RIMS for Protege 5?

Hi all - i have a line on some 17 x 6.5 rims from a 2006 Mazda 3 - and was wondering from your experience if they would fit on my sons 2003 P5 (230 k kms) properly and what are the up/ downsides of this. The stocks he has on there currently have snow tires and we want to get him setup for summer with out breaking the bank... its his first car. The bolt patterns are the same at 114.3 x 5. I truly appreciate the advice.

Thanks again! Another question / What about 17x7 - will that extra 1/2” rub? Wonder if I would need spacers at all with that.
