Default "94" Protege. Hold light flashes

Hi Folks, I have a "94" Protege, well maintained w/154,000 miles on it. About a week after I had the right side transaxial boot replaced, the "Hold light" started flashing on the dash. #1. The Transmission is working just fine and has been maintained according to Mazda's recommendations. #2. The owner's manual says it's an electrical problem due to the transaxial. My question is this. In consideration that the transaxial problem has been addressed, what could possibly be causing the "Hold light" to flash? By the way, prior to having the transaxial repaired, the "Hold Light" had not been flashing. Thanks much for any info!

Default RE: "94" Protege. Hold light flashes

The Hold light flashing is the Transmissions equivalent of the Engines Check engine light. A fault has been detected and code should be stored. To get that code you will need to find the DIAGNOSIS connector located just below the wiper motor. Open up the top cover and attach a jumper wire or even a use a paper clip to short the pins labeled TEN and GND together. See first drawing below for reference. Now turn the ignition to " run' position and the Check engine light or Hold light will start flashing out a pattern to give you the code. See second drawing below. The Long duration flashes are the tens digit and short duration flashes are ones digit. See what kind of code you have stored in the computer and then will know more about what is happening.
