Timing Belt Replacement

Timing Belt Replacement
Greetings Forum Fellows. I just "inherited" an 88 B2200 4-cyl with 100,000 miles. While it was well maintained, I presume that as a conscientious owner I should replace the timing belt. My questions are:
- is this motor definitely equipped with a Belt, or could it havea Chain?
- do the cylinder heads really need to be removed, as the Haynes manual states?
"Although it is possible to remove the timing chain cover without removing the cylinder head, it is not recommended. The head gasket seals the gap between the timing chain cover and head"
I am trying to avoid major surgery. Thanks.

RE: Timing Belt Replacement
I just found this site to be of great help. It's sponsored by Autozone and is just as accurate as any haynes book.
