Default Mazda MX-30

Since there isn't a section for Mazda's new car on this forum yet, I thought I'd start some discussion. For us in the U.S., we'll be getting the Mazda MX-30 in California only to start, and as an EV only (plug-in hybrid with rotary range extender is reported to come later). In Mazda's home country of Japan, you can get the MX-30 as either an EV or as a mild hybrid which uses a 2.0 Skyactiv engine.

Here's some key highlights:
  • Eligible for federal tax credit
  • 100 miles of range for the EV
  • MSRP starting at $33,470 (for the EV)
  • rear clamshell doors (like the RX-8)
  • plug in hybrid is reported to come later to the U.S.
  • 2.0 Skyactiv mild hybrid engine available in Japan
I personally like the design of the MX-30 better than the CX-30, but I would have liked to have seen the mild hybrid option launch in the states. What do you guys think of the MX-30?

I've asked the powers to be to add a MX-30 section.

We've had the MX-30 mild hybrid skyactiv model in Australia for a few months now, and the all electric model for about two months.

I took the electric model home one night. Acceleration is good, they have a noise generator to simulate engine noise. Can't wait for the rotary equipped model to arrive.

How has reception of the MX-30 been in Australia? Because of the sales strategy that Mazda is pitching in the US, the public reception has been less than welcoming for the car.

Mazda is quite late to the EV party & have been caught with their pants down. The 224km range is pathetic.

The EV is almost twice the price of the mild hybrid skyactiv petrol model.

I'm not a fan of the interior design.

Got to walk around one and look in the windows on a dealer lot during a recent biz-trip to California. Seems nice if a bit overpriced. Nifty car overall.

This is unfortunate. Car companies that come to the EV industry late cannot afford to make any unforced errors. Putting out products that are subpar will make the entire EV car market appear lacking. Customers will bad mouth EVs as a whole when they talk to their friends & families, because they will say they paid a lot of money for a horrible experience owning an EV.
Just my opinion.
