Default mx6 dies

I have a 89 mx6 and when I lightly touch the gas it wants to die but if push the gas its fine. Also in drive and reverse if im at a stop its bogs down and dies.

Any thoughts on what might be causing these issues.

That year used an AFM (air flow meter). If the big rubber hose from the air cleaner to the throttlebody has any leak/crack/etc then the flap on the AFM will not open correctly and the issue you describe will occur. There is also a plastic surge tank on the bottom of the boot that must be perfectly sealed. A throttlebody flush is highly recommended also.

Just get some carb spray and a rag and remove the intake boot from the throttlebody. Clean the butterfly. They gunk up and cause a low idle.

Well that fixed it. and I sprayed out the carb. So that helped too. I noticed there was some oil in the intake and it has only been driven a couple times since I cleaned it all out last weekend. Is that normal?

Get a new PCV valve first, otherwise possible blow by.
Check your oil levels for consumption.

Good to know. Is there supposed to be an open right hose off the valve cover?

If it's a V6, more than likely
