But it runs great when you are accelerating and just cruising, right?
Hmmm... That could be caused by so many things that I wouldn't know where to start?
A dirty/clogged this or that, i.e. EGR valve, injector
A faulty ignition coil, wire or spark plug
A bad throttle position switch or MAP sensor
In short, you have an OBDI system on that car, not the more current OBDII. This just might be a job for someone who can read those codes, or can at least lay hands on it personally, or you could spend a ton of money in parts and time and get no where.

Hey mean, just a thought about your "skip," try resetting the PCM/ECU.
If you don't already know, disconnect the battery and either connect the 2 batt cables (not the posts) together, or turn everything on in the car that draws power (to drain any charged capacitors in the system) for 10-30mins. Then reconnect.
The ECU will take a while to relearn the sensors, and the car will be perfectly driveable while it does, but it just might solve your skip.

i had somewhat the same problem. it would idle at high rpms. and when it warmed up it wouldn't want to run right. All I did was the the temperature chip or sensor. fixed it right up. if that doesn't help i have no idea.
