Tune-up for 97 MPV
Hi everyone,
New to this forum, I'm going to do a major tune-up for a used Mazda MPV i just bought. Can someone tell me what needs to be changed for a tune up in a 1997 MPV model?
Spark Plugs,
Wiring,
CPV valve,
Roter?
Anything else?
Also, is there any to-do website out that that can help?

RE: Tune-up for 97 MPV
A good, completetune-up of a new to you MPV would include replacement of spark plugs, plug wires, distributor cap and rotor, pcv valve, air and fuel filters, and oil change. After engine is fully warmed up then ground the TEN terminal of the under hood DIAGNOSIS connector as shown below and set base timing to 11' BTDC and base idle speed to 780 rpm. Don't forget to remove the grounded TEN wire when done.

babyhuey, I'm just curious why you have to gound the TEN terminal while setting the timing. It must be on the procedure. It is something new to me. I've only set timing on breaker point type system a long time ago and never on this type of electronic ignition systems. Thanks for your advise.

RE: Tune-up for 97 MPV
Every time I ground the ten terminal to ground, the idle drops but I can never get the timing mark to move no matter how much I move the distributor. It seems the ECU never releases control. I have been trying to lower the timing because my engine spark knocks so much. Also, How to you set the engine idle rpm? Is there a set screw in the leakage or do You use the air screw in the throttle body?
Thanks
Thanks
