struts - aftermarket or OEM
Hello friends,
I'm replacing the struts on a 2001 Mazda MPV. I've researched out parts and found some good KYB shock kits (struts, mounts, coils, etc) and also just the OEM struts are about the same price. I think KYB is a good brand, but I don't have enough experience with this car to make a decision. I'm a nissan/hyundai guy and on my cars I'd go with OEM every time, reusing most of the other parts. I'm hoping one of you would have more experience with this, because I know there are a few parts on some cars that OEM is worse than aftermarket. |
I put KYB struts on my 2002 MPV. I, and more importantly, my wife, are very happy with them.
I can't really compare with OEM as the struts were shot when I got the vehicle. The only downside to the KYBs was that I couldn't find an assembly. I had to buy the bare struts and have my mechanic build them up using the OEM springs and such. They are easy to install. You may want to put in a cam adjustment bolt while you are at it. Good luck! |
Struts and Shocks Replacement
Just replaced the struts and shocks on my daughter's 02 MPV. I installed KYB at all 4 corners and I did not use an ALL IN ONE KIT. They are out there on Rock Auto and at Auto Zone. I didn't install the A.I.O.s because the new springs raise the height and Mazda wants a lot of $$$ for rear springs. At 101,000 miles, they were due for a change. Now on to the new tires and alignment.

KYB for the WIN!!!!!!!!! :D
As a temporary upgrade to the rear shock/dampeners on my Mazda I instaled KYB Gas-adjust(none applicated) . What a great difference it made. The KYB EXCEL-G standard replacement for OEM< Mazda are a good upgrade as well!
