Default mpv 2000 rough 1-2 gear shift

Hi, I have a 2000 mpv with 87500 miles. I bought this from a dealer in Florida about 2 months ago.
It seems that the shift from 1st to 2nd gear is very rough, and it made me concerned about thebad transmission. When I got this from the dealer, I was told that the transmission was recently rebuilt. So I thought that the transmission was at least not something that I should be concerned about. Yet, it seems that the transmission slips or jumps when the gear shifts from 1st to 2nd gear. Is this something I should be worried about? Babyhuey, who is extremely nice, once said that the rough gear shift (1st to 2nd gear)was a very well-known issue. Then, should it be fixed immediately? Or is the rough gear shift simply normal for 2000 mpv? Thank you very much for your help in advance. You have a great day!

Meanwhile, what does tune-up do? When should I consider tune-up? Thank you, thank you, and thank you!

The severity of the rough shift is the only real thing in question. A harder than normal 1-2 upshift was not uncommon on the 2000-2001 MPV but primarily only when cold. Would shift smoother the warmer the engine and trans fluid became. Perhaps the best thing to do would be to take into a reputable transmission shop and have them drive it for an evaluation of the shift quality, fluid condition etc. Somtimes a fluid flush and addition of shift softener additive will clean things right up. Transmission fluid should be a light pink color and have a somewhat sweet odor. Darker fluid of burnt smell could be signs of fluid deterioration.
Wonder what kind of rebuild was done, what the warranty is and if it is passed onto the new owner??

Recommended spark plug change interval from Mazda is 60k miles.
A tune-up for your van is really only a replacement of the spark plugs and air filter. Fuel filter is inside the fuel tank and is generally not serviced unless there are fuel pressure problems. A new set of good spark plug wires along with the spark plugs is also not a bad idea given the mileage. There are not adjustments to be made as timing and idle speed is preset and not adjustable.

I had the same problem with my 2003 MPV. I brought it new. And from the very begining I had a problem.I took it to the shop when it was under warrant two times before they fixed it. They said it was a computer program problem. I have around 77000 miles on the vehicle now. Every know and then, maybe every four months, I still get a jerk from the trans. I think it is just a problem that will never be fixed. But in your case you shuld try & see if it is a computer problem that can be fixed and aleviate the ongoing problem.
