Followed the directions on cleaning the MAF sensor, now when the air box is closed it won't start. I cleaned it with the QD spray by applying the cleaner down the air intake tube where the sensors are located. I applied 4 to 5 squirts. I waited about 3 minutes, then closed up the air box. I tride to start the engine and nothing. I opened up the air box and it started right up. The van started up the next morning for my wife, however, would not start later that day while she was shopping. I went and opened up the air box and it started. There is no check engine light.

Any advice?

 

Did something move to block the air intake into the filter box? A rag or towel perhaps?

 

No. All I used was the spray cleaner. Was careful not to touch the wires. The CEL light is on now. Back to the store to see what codes are.

Weird, yes let us know what it is. When I cleaned (and later replaced) mine, I just took the two screws out, removed the MAF and sprayed cleaner on it then put it back.

 

When doing such a cleaning, you should first disconnect the negative terminal on the battery followed immediately by pressing on the brake pedal. Then you spray the crap out of the MAF. Then you hold the MAF in your hand and move your arm around drying the MAF for about 30 seconds. Now it is dry. When dry you can re-install it. Re-hook up the battery negative terminal. Start car up, let idle for 10-15 minutes. Now ECU has been re-set to updated MAF and can re-learn.
This needs to be done especially if yours is dirty or if you never cleaned it it last 2 years.

 

Thanks to Noggin. I was forgetting to press the brake pedal down. Cleared the CEL. Now it's business as usual. Next will be the spark plug change at approx. 98,000 miles.
