Default Cooling Fan relay Faulty

2001 MPV van would not pass inspection. Code for cooling fan 2relay. Autozone, Pepboys, Checkers do not know where this relay is, nor can the dealer tell me on the phone. Anyone have an idea where this relay is located. I have found on both side walls 6 squares that are labled FAN. and then the fuse box with fan.

Any idea

Was the code set a P0481TexasBear?? If so then there is nothing at all wrong with the relays. That code should not exist to be set for your 2001 MPV and only does because of a programming glitch in the PCM. Dealer can recalibrate/reprogram PCM so this will not occur again or you can just clear the DTC and is unlikely that it will reset as it takes a rather unique set of circumstances for it to be set. You will need to drive the van for 50 miles or so on freeway and stop and go traffic after clearing the codefor on-board system rediness tests to be run and pass before you can pass inspection.

Thanks for the advise. I did reset the computer. Why when I turn on the van (after sitting all night) does the fan turn on at a high rate of speed like it is hot? I know one fan turns on to cool the engine and the second fan turns on when the AC is on. Does one fan turn on atuomatically in the am? Seems to come on when engine is still cold. Any advise?

You are right about the one coming on with the A/C and that could well be the case. Try turning the interiror heater blowerfan off and see if the cooling fan shuts off. Turning the interior fan off will cut out the A/C system operation completely. Keep in mind that the A/C is turned on with the mode control in defrost, defrost/floor, and often times all floor even though the A/C light on the button is not illuminated.
Let us hope that is the case and not a sticking relay as your van has 7 different cooling fan relays controlling 2 dual speed fans!!![:@]
