Hi everybody,

I have been trying to figure this issue out without dumping lots of money for the diagnosis, but i can't nail down an answer.

My fear is that i have a bad catalytic converter. A friend of mine who used to be a mechanic seems to think it just needs new O2 sensor. Either way it's a hell of a job, as I believe it's bank 1 which appears to be extremely difficult to access.

All the shops in my area say that it would cost between $800-1,500 to do this job if it is the catalytic converter. The latter is half the value of the vehicle.

I really just want to sell this thing before more stuff goes wrong, but I have to get this fixed in order to sell it.

Review the best bluetooth obd2 scanner at Autoguysland if you want to get one.

I think you should check firstly spark plugs, then the O2 sensor like measure the voltage at the oxygen sensor on the bank1, lastly the converter before you replace anything.

I had this issue with a 2002 mpv. I bought the sensor for a decent price but could not do the repair myself. Several garages wouldn't do the repair unless they supplied their own O2 sensor. The sensor was just over a hundred cdn and the job would likely take an hour so I can't see a bill for $1500 being likely. Of course the issue in this area is often rust which may mean new exhaust parts but still...1500!!
