2002 MPV park neutral switch

2002 MPV park neutral switch
My 2002 MPV will start only if I push the gear selection lever to the very far left in "park" position. An online mechanic thought this could be "normal wear of the mechanism that controls the switch." If so, where is the mechanism, and how much trouble is it to access the mechanism or switch?
