Just recently picked up a 2000 MPV ES van, and someone ran it so long that 4 of the 6 cylinders pistons were in pieces. I've never seen one so bad, there was a wrist pin in the oil pan.

After a few weeks, I found a Cougar replacement engine. What a large hassle having to swap almost every external component on the engine. But, a large savings in the long run.

I am now at the point of trying to start the van, and have tried a few times. Although, no success. It will start to run for a second or so and then stop when I release the key. Seems like an imobilizer issue. Although, I can't seem to get anything out of the imobilizer. I have tried following many of the diagnostic procedures of the KO start for 2 secs, relase to run for 2 minutes and get the light that stays on the one time it appeared to be successful. The light did not go off or flash a code.

Then, tried to do the 5x of Kon/Koff quickly for programming a key and get nothing.

Also tried the diagnostic for the entering of a code with the KO/Door lock sequence and get nothing.

The manual I'm looking at says to go to either Troubleshooting 11 or 6 sequence, but I can't seem to find that section. Does anyone know what these two sections are referring too?
