Default Timming Belt

I have Millinia 2001 which has done 86,000 miles, from last couple of days it is giving is giving louder engine sounds than normal which reduces if I push accelerator. I showed to a mechanic and he said it is time to change the timing belt and pulley. How can I make sure he is right?

One more thing, if you push AMB button on console it shows the outer temperature in Fahrenheit, can I change it to Centigrade?

Thank you.

I have a Millenia 02' with almost 140,000 miles and haven't changed the timing belt yet. The dealer tells me I'm way over due and would have had me change it at about 80,000. Hopefully it'll hold out until 150,000 and I'll change it then. I don't know of any noises associated with needing to have the timing belt changed. Sorry, I can't help you with the fahrenheit to celcius thing.

Thank you Deb, I got it changed and now the car is smooth like new. It cost me $ 500, 200 for the parts and 300 labor. Good luck with you milli.
