Default new owner need key

Hi All,
We just bought a 2002 Millenia S and it has only one key and no key code. Can we have a key made at a local hardware shop? It has the squared tip so we have no idea where to have it made. Thanks in advance for the help. So far so good with everything else.
J.

As far as I know most dealers cannot even cut a key for the Millenia but instead have to send request to Tokai Rika USA for keys. It takes a very special key machine to cut them. You can contact them yourself at 269-966-0512. They are in Battle Creek MI.
If you need to get the key code and want me to see if I can pull it up for you then PM me with the last 8 digits of your VIN and will check for you on the Mazda information site. The keys retail for around $50 each.

I had sort of a similar problem, my keys were lost leaving me with only one key to my 95 Millenia. Went to my Dealer and they wanted $135 for a new key. Checked with a lock smith and he put me in contact with a lock smith that does laser cutting. Went to him and he made me a copy of my key and only charged me $30.
Do a search for a lock smith near you that does laser key cutting. It could save you a bunch.
