Default Millenia Fuel Filler Door Problem

My 2002 Millenia 2.5's fuel filler door switch stopped working. The trunk button still works, and the door panel light dims slightly when the pushbutton is pressed - so something is going on, just no opening of the filler door. Other than a crowbar, is there a way to activate the filler door manually? I expected to find a cable in the trunk, but couldn't locate one. Any ideas on the problem? Thanks.

I used some wd40 on mine and now it occasionaly sticks but I just go out and tap on the door a few times and then go and depress the switch again. It always works.

Since your door light is dimming we can assume that the fuel door release motor is drawing some power to try and operate. One of two things is usually the problem. Motor is getting a little weak from age and use of the catch on the fuel door is putting too much outward pressure on the motor tip. Something you all might try that I just did on a 01 day before yesterday with same problem. With the fuel door open, slightly bend that catch on the door slightly inward or away from where the release rod would contact it. Not very much but just 1/16th to 1/8th of an inch or so. Usually works like a charm.
There is a manual release but in order to get to it you will need to bend down the left side trunk liner a bit to get your hand in there. Removing two of the little plastic trim retainer right in that area will make it easier. Reach behind the trim panel untill you can feel the actuator. On the top of it you will feel what almost feels like a gun trigger. Give that a pull towards the rear and should release.
