Question Keyless remote

I purchased a new remote for my millenia and took it to the dealer to have it programed. They could not get it to work. I tried it myself and still can't. What am I doing wrong? Do you think the battery may be old?

what year is your car? there are 3 different systems. 95, 96-00, and 00 on. if you have your old remote, it will have the frequency on the back. the remotes are not interchangeable
