Default How do I remove the cigarette lighter socket?

Have a 1995 2.5L.

Probably a simple solution but I don't want to break anything. Lighter stopped working and I need to remove the socket to check out the problem or replace it. Anyone know how to remove the socket from the console?

Thanks!

I have a '99 Mil S 2.3, and I'm not sure how different your model is than mine, as far as interior goes. But I replaced my stereo not too long ago for an aftermarket. On my dash, there is a wood panel that goes from the shifter up and around the radio compartment. That panel pops off easily if you pry easily with a butterknife, flat object, or whatever. The car shifter has to be in D to allow the panel to come off, so make sure to set your parking brake.

The cigarette lighter socket connects to the back of that panel and is held on with just a clip. This is also where the seatwarmer and all that good stuff is connected.

Like I said, I'm not sure how similar yours is, but the same concept should apply.
