Default Front End Help

My car has no grille and the hood flaps up and down when I drive over 60. There are some pics below that show the damage. I cant put a grille on it until the hood situation is fixed. It looks like the 2 side latches for the hood have been damaged and thats why the hood won't stay down. My question is has anyone been through this front end situation before and what advice can you give.

Also, the lever thats located under the steering wheel that you pull to pop the hood doesn't work either.

Default RE: Front End Help

Not very safe to be driving with the hood latches completely broken like that wado1. At 60 mph if your bungees or secondary latch in center gives way the hood will come up so fast that it will at very least completelely obstruct view if not break windshield apart. Could also be ripped completely from the car and end up flying into oncoming traffic. OUCH.
First off get rid of those bungee cords. If car must still be driven then at least run several loops of heavier gauge wire between the secondary latch striker in the center of the hood down to something solid below like the radiator core support where the latch is at. Have someone help put good downward pressure on the hood and then twist the wire up tight to hold the hood down solid. A second loop would not be a bad idea either just in case the first breaks or comes undone.
