Engine cuts off while driving. Runs great and then all of a sudden engine losses gas pressure and cuts off. Any ideas?

'cuts off'? as in engine dies, runs rough, runs smooth but looses power?

I may have this problem too ...engine sometimes just dies ...at other times it starts to run rough and then reverts to OK ...Fuel issue ? electrical issue ? Happens ~ 5-6 times per week ...but I have taken 400-500 mile trips with no issue also ..Strange ..I have condition of TCS 'off' that occurs too !!

An outright stall with no warning would probably be a distributor. Was a fairly common problem with the distributor in the Kl engine of both the Millenia and 626/MX-6 in early years. Mazda made repair parts (ie new coil and pickup assembly) available as separate repair parts in the later 90's. We never really used them as the suspected problem was a coil leaking secondary voltage that was frying the pickup assembly and the cost to replace both parts was only slightly cheaper than putting in a complete distributor. Does the engine start right back up or do you sometimes have to wait a while to restart? Usually if this was the problem it would have to sit for 5 minutes or longer before restart which should give you time to check and see if you have spark at the plug wire ends. If you have spark with still no start then look elsewhere. The distributor is not cheap so we do not want to just guess at it. Loss of fuel pressure could also be causing the concern you have if it is a power loss that ends in a stall.

here's another maybe. bad gas. if you go to the mom and pop gas stations, you might have bad gas, or water in the tank. gas is lighter than water, so the water goes to the bottom of the tank, where it is picked up by the fuel pump. although it is slightly mixed, when it hits the really hot fuel rail, the water boils, and you get vapor lock. if you can drain some gas from the tank into a glass jar and let it sit, in a few minutes you can see the fuel separate and float on top of the water. if the tank dont have a drain, you can pull the return fuel line and turn on the ignition, do not start. or, try putting a couple bottles of dri gas, heet, etc. in the tank. make sure it is 100% isopropyl alcohol. and stick with a name brand gas station

My Girlfriend has very close to the same problem, the car runs nice, then will die, not stutter or stall, just die. Then it will start to stall and have no problem. It seems to be doing hte same thing my old lebaron was doing and that was a distributor problem. I have also noticed that in revers and neutral the car runs smooth with no shaking or rough idle, but in forward gears, D 2 1, it is very rough and sometimes dies at low idle. She has to put it in neutral sometimes to keep it from stalling. Any Ideas

Good possibility with the distributor being at fault for the intermittent stalling. Check the black rubber intake boot between the air cleaner and throttle body for the rough idle in forward gears. Carefully and throughly look for a tear in the acccordian bellows area especially. In forward gears engine torque and movement may be opening up a tear that get closed back up in reverse or neutral.
