Default 2002 Mazda Millenia S Question.

How can I tell if my supercharger is still working properly? and What are the care instructions for superchargers?

Sorry, I'm new to the whole concept of superchargers.

Much appreciation for any help.

I suggest speaking to the Service Manager at your nearby Mazda dealer. He/she will know what special care, if any, is required.

BAD advice. the service manager probably has never SEEN a 2.3. most of the posts i have seen on questionable compressor is lotsa smoke. now, if the compressor was dead, the car would run smooth, but be way down on power. our black car had the p/s pump pulley come off, and i had to cut the serpentine belt, and drove the car home. that belt also turns the compressor, AND the water pump. so i had no power steering, no compressor, and no water pump. the ambient temps was fairly cool, even then i had to pull over several times to let it cool down. and pulling on to the freeway was an experience. traffic was light, and what power there was, was smooth, but the car would not go over about 45mph.

That's ridiculous. Any tenured Mazda service manager is going to have seen dozens of Millenia S models. Not sure where YOU live but here in California there are lots of that model running around.

So the best way to judge is if there is white smoke coming off the motor and that the car won't be able to make it past 45 mph?

white smoke will generally be coolant or condensation. if it is coolant, it will smell sweet. also, your coolant resevoir will be low. the compressor(supercharger) on a miller cycle motor has a slightly different use than a supercharger(compressor) does on otto cycle. what happens is the compressor on the mc keeps pressure on the intake system. because of the very high compression, the intake valves close much later than on otto cycle, and without pressure on the intake side of the valves, the result would be the incoming charge would be blown backwards back out the intake. so worse case scenario, the car would have no power, and yah, wont go over about 45 mph. but if the compressor was not completely dead, you would still get some power. you can get a hand held boost gauge, tap into the vacuum system, and see if you are getting boost. if so, compressor might still be good.

and if you want to take your car to the dealer, have at it. the dealer will charge the most, they will know the least, and you will pay them to learn on your car

Default oil consumption

the last month or so my 96 millenia S has began to smoke(whitish) at start up,ALOT more than usual.its pretty embarrasing.but after 45 seconds of running it goes completely away.i had a cylender 3 misfire and the plug was pretty nasty, the rest were good.oil consumption is up also.the car has GREAT power still and drives good.a little oil in the coolers but no more than it always has.im thinking rings? valve guides? or is there a gasket or seal that may be bad on the supercharger.not really wanting to tear into it too much. i thought valve cover gaskets but the plug wasnt oily on top

This is true I can't even get the Mazda dealerships around here in Greenville South Carolina to even look at my car because they don't want to mess with it because nobody knows anything about it so the guys kind of got a point and he is kind of right you know they didn't make many of these cars but you know they held their value good it's just a matter of how hard it is to work on the engines in the price of the parts because so few were made
