Exclamation Oil Leak from Transmission

I have become the proud owner of a very well maintained 1992 1.6L Manual Transmission Miata. I was going over and under the car like I do with all new car purchases and noticed an oil leak. This leak was seemingly finite and extraordinarily slow. I cleaned all around the bottom of the transmission and engine base to locate said leak. Once I cleaned everything off, I started the car and noticed a small dribble coming from a curious small hole in the transmission. I wiped away the residue and more came out immediately. I've been searching high and low in the performance books, project Miata books, and even the Haynes repair manual. The manuals all have this hole pictured at least one time so it appears to be a purposeful hole. Even in searching this forum and the many videos on youtube, I have managed to find no relevant information on this peculiar little hole. Attached is a picture specifying said hole. Any information on this would be more than what I have now.
Thank You all in Advanced
