Default MX5 ND Roof leak drivers side bracket

Hi, I am new to owning a mx5 and recently purchased a 2019 ND. I recently noticed water dripping from a little plug in the hood bracket above the driver’s side window. It only leaks after heavy rain and when the car is moving. I am guessing that water is finding its way into the hood somehow and collecting in there, then the car moving is enough to vibrate the plug and let it drip out. it is only happening on the driver’s side and I have checked everywhere I can think and it all looks good. I have attached pictures so you can see what I am talking about.

I was hoping someone might have had a similar issue as i am tired of walking into work with a wet arm and leg.

Default Same problem

If you have a fix, I would love to hear it!!

It's just started on mine exactly as in your pictures. Quite suddenly as well. Now it's happening every time it rains... which is a lot in Manchester .

Thanks!

Did either of you find a solution to this? I’ve got it on my 2019 ND

Not exactly, I thought I'd give the roof a good clean and protect with a proper canvas roof kit before I went any further, just in case it was that.

It seems to have stopped but I don't feel like I'm in the clear completely. I've got a 12 month warranty with the garage I bought it so if it happens again, I'll be straight on to them.

I'll be sure to post either way for your info. Can you let me know if you find it's something else, would be helpful to know if I've solved the problem or just postponed it.

The kit I used was autoglym https://www.autoglym.com/soft-top-cl...t-complete-kit
It was cheaper from Halfords.

Good luck!

I have the identical issue on my 2018 ND. I don't know if it's a coincidence, but it started after I got the car detailed earlier this year and the roof treated. I've had all the drainage holes checked and everything and everything seems OK. The roof is in good condition and I've never had this issue before, despite the car living outside.

I'd be interested in knowing if you manage to get it sorted and how.

I originally thought it might be water going up from the window when driving at speed in the rain. Making its way under the hood that way?
Having said that, it's raining again today and I've just been on the motorway and it's not happened again ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.

That's basically what I thought, as it mostly happens when I started driving. But if yours holds out I'll try autoglyming the whole thing.

Yea, I'll be sure to update this thread either way.
I'd recommend the autoglym anyway, roof looks loads better and water beads and runs off! Easy enough to do and didn't take all afternoon or anything.

About three months ago I used Autoglym fabric cleaner and Renovo ultra proofer to clean and reseal my ND's roof. It helped a little as it only leaks in heavy or prolonged periods of rain however It did not solve the issue as some mornings the seat is wet and water drips onto my arm while driving. I have noticed that if you pull back the rubber above the window on the interior there is a little strip of roof fabric that sticks out a little which is always heavily saturated whenever the leak appears. I don’t know if there is a gap between the metal strip that the exterior rubber strip slots onto and the roof fabric that is allowing water to pass and get inside. could also possibly be a small tear in the roof fabric or it may even be seeping through the fabric.
