Default Miata terminolgy

Am a new Miata owner (1999) and have seen ads, letters, etc referring to Miata's as an NA, NB, or NC car. What does this mean????

An NA is a first-gen Miata. 1990-1997. The NB is the second-gen. 1999-2005 (there was no '98 in the States) and the NC is the '06+ car. It comes from the VIN. On an NA, the first digits are JM1NA.

You'll also see NA6CE, or variations of that. That's the generation, then the engine code. The 6 means a 1.6.

and by 1.6 you're referring to the engine size: 1.6L DOHC RWD engine?
