Question for the group. I am at the 5000-mile mark on my new 2017 Grand Touring. What type of oil are you guys running in your Miatas? I have always run Mobile one full synthetic in my car in the past. Thanks in advance!

Andy, I have not heard the issues related to Mazda engine reliability that plague some other brands. I get a synthetic oil change every 7,500 miles from a trusted mechanic, however, a better recommendation would be to use the synthetic oil recommended by Mazda in you manual and change it every 5,000 miles. You probably wouldn't go wrong with Mobil One Full Synthetic.

The most important thing in my opinion is to get regular oil changes and make sure you trust the mechanic that is doing the work. I have paid for an oil change (or perhaps 2 or 3 in a row) and I later realized that I likely did not get an oil change. On another car, one of the fast oil change places failed to put the filter on properly and I had no oil within a mile. This was the car's first oil change.

We had an oil change on our 2008 MX-5 at a tire/oil change shop and 500 miles later, we were driving on the highway and big noise/blue smoke/oil leaking. Turns out the oil plug wasn't installed properly and had worked it's way out. We're sticking with the dealer to change our oil.
