2024 RF. Have been getting the headlight malfunction warning 80% of the time when I drive. Had it at the dealership and was told the code states the swivel is sticking. Supposed software update coming by end of 25, but nothing they can do until then. I'm now having the issue with the swivel getting stuck and not coming back. It's making driving at night a real pain. Especially since it'll be dark at 5pm soon. Is there anything I can do? Love driving my car, but this is ruining it for me.
Sorry I wish I had some answer for you, but I even contacted my source at Mazda and they basically said the same thing about a BCM and or ECU update ?
2024 generally speaking because most are all under warranty we don't have them coming in for servicing yet. So I have no history information to look at.
But you did the best thing was go to Mazda and get this on your VIN history.
I have recently started receiving a “Headlight Malfunction” warning on my 2024 Mazda Miata RF. When this occurs, the adaptive headlights stop moving left and right and remain pointed straight ahead.
The warning clears after I turn the vehicle off and restart it, and the headlights then resume their normal left‑and‑right movement. However, the warning and issue has occurred each day now after driving 7-8 mins with three or four 90 degree turns.
Has Mazda released a software update to address this issue, and if so, has it been distributed to Mazda USA dealerships for installation?
Couple things.
First with any electrical problem
Have your main battery load tested no matter the age or because you do not think its a problem.
Always scan your ECU which your year will also have BCM information.
I did not find any ECU updates but only did a standard look. I did not do a direct inquiry as I am not at the shop at 930 pm. Lol
Your Miata adaptive headlights is monitored and adjustments made in the BCM. Some BCM have been problematic with some specific year and model Mazda. I did not see Miata on the notification TSB, but again at home I have limited access to some information.
My advise is this is a quest to ask a Mazda dealership directly and not a forum.
