Default Front end shake

Just bought a used 2003 MX5 (53,000miles) and if I hit a pot hole/ man holecover etc my front end shakes real bad for a few seconds then straightens out. The car rides, drives and steers just fine other than that shake. Could it be struts?

Here's an update: I took the car (2003 mx-5) back to the Ford dealer where I bought it and after having it all day they said, "yes the front end shakes when hitting a pot hole, more on the right side then the left." They then inspected the complete car and could not find anything wrong. They then shipped it off to the Mazda dealer the next day. Mazda said there's nothing wrong, this is normal for a MX-5! We were thinking of trading up to the new 2008 hard-top convertable model but no longer. I've owned several two door sports cars including a 2007 Pont. Solstice GXP and they had no shake at all. We bought this 2003 Miata for auto crossing I no longer feel that it is safe enough for that purpose so will probably just use it as a daily driver to and from work and keep racing our '74 Fiat X19 until the engine goes! I was planning on adding a turbo to the Miata.
