Default cam sensor 2000 Mazda

I've read all of the cam sensor failures. I still have a few questions.
My car is a 2000 base. Two owners 30,900 miles. I have been around this car from new.
Always garaged and serviced every year. I drove the car into the garage one day and several
days later it wouldn't start. I checked for fuel, battery, fire to plugs, checked the fuel pump to make sure it was pumping.
Everything was working as it should. So, I ordered a factory sensor ($140.00) Thinking it would be the best way to go.
We went on a little trip and the car stopped after 75 miles. I put the old original sensor in and the car started right up and we made it home.
There has to be something else wrong. I checked the codes and got the green light. I can't keep replacing sensors. The nearest dealer is 90 miles away.
I'm not sure if I'll risk the trip. Roll backs are expensive and so are dealers. Thanks in advance.
