i have a 1990 supercharged miata, and the next thing i want to invest in is a new transmission. i was thinking something with wider gears, or possibly a 6 spd if they make it. i do most of my miles on the highway, so i want to cut my revs down. does anybody recommend one? some suggestions for websites to visit? im new to these forums and new to mazdas. im coming from volkswagen so i know basically nothing about these cars. any help greatly appreciated.

most mazda 6 speeds don't add a top gear, it's more like an extra gear between 3rd and 4th (at least that's the way it is Rx-7 vs. Rx-8). and the standerd 5th gear is equal to the 6th in gear rations.

 

hm...i might go down to a shop that does tranny's and see if they can do anything custom. doubt they'd be able to do anything but its worth a try.
