Strange (and dangerous) behaviour of CX-9 gas pedal
I recently bought a pre-owned 2023 CX-9 to replace my very old but reliable CX-9 (which had given us over 250,000 miles of reliable service in Houston stop-and-go traffic).
And I love the 2023 CX-9, except for one rather dangerous "feature" ...
If you have your foot on the brake and also on the accelerator, the computer apparently "thinks" that you are stopping, and it "decides" on its on to set the accelerator to "idle"!
And still worse: it then ignores the accelerator pedal!
I had this happen on a freeway off-ramp at 50+ mph.
Someone at Mazda needs to get this "feature" changed ASAP, before the lawsuits begin (assuming they haven't already).
Also, I didn't just dream-up what is happening internally... I got this information from my local Christian Brothers auto repair (which has never given me a wrong diagnosis in 8+ years)
And "yes" Christian Brothers agrees that it's a stupid thing for the computer to do "on its' on"!
As a retired computer programmer with 40 years of hands-on software development on various computers, I know a "bad idea" when I smell one.
And this Mazda feature really stinks!
So, what's it going to be.?
1) remove/disable the feature immediately
or...
2) get the lawyers involved?

Technically speaking your should not be running driving with your foot on the brake and *gas pedal (*old school term that no longer applies to most modern vehicles which is no called a drive-by-wire) at the same time.
Its not a safety feature only a driver bad driving habit. When toy even lightly touch the drive-by-wire it sends information to the ECU which control all the other function of the vehicle that pertains to it running!!
It has been shown in traffic condition over decades that many minor fender-benders are from drivers with there foot on the brake and throttle at the same time. POOR DRIVING HABBITS!
For some having those admitted bad driving habits then I suggest to take the OPs (dathom1093@hotmail.com) suggest 2 get a lawyer?
For Street or Hot Rodders you may notice that you can no longer "power brake" off the line for those really "KOOL" smokey burnouts in parking lots or on the street regarding some newer OBDII and CANbus control operating system from about 2002 to present unless you do a ERCU calibration locking and unlocking certain safety controls in the ECU programing. Or with a some Drive-by-wire enhancers.
Lastly and this is just my pet peeve... a computer programmer is by no mean anywhere close to an automotive ECU system operational programmer. And most computer programmers I know have NO CLUE how to change ECU calibration programs on even the basic fundamental levels . But then why would they most are not "gearheads" and went a different direction in life.
And as for a shop that has a loyal customers and agree with their assessment is just good customer service. LOL

There is no reason what so ever why you should ever have you feet on the brake pedal & accelerator pedal at the same same time.
It is a safety feature to prevent unintentional acceleration ( when braking).
Mazda's have had this feature ever since they moved from accelerator cables to fly by wire.
