Hi Everyone. I have an interesting and apparently difficult problem. I have a 2015 CX-9 with 48,000 miles. Three months ago I started to get a vibration when I started it, followed by the engine light coming on. The engine would, at first, smooth out after driving about 1 mile or so, and the light would go out. But , after a while, although the engine would smooth out, the light would stay on. I took it to my mechanic who scanned it and said the “ number 5 cylinder coil was bad “ according to the code. I changed all six coils and spark plugs at that time. About two weeks later, the same problem started again. Apparently the code still indicates an issue with the number 5 cylinder. He checked it again, and said something about a loose pin connection or loose wire connection, that exacerbated the problem when he moved that connection. He said he repaired the connection and thought that would solve the problem. However, two days later the problem is back 😔. I should also mention that three times when driving…and as about to slow down to make a turn, the engine shut off completely. I was able to coast to a stop, put the shifter into neutral, and restart without a problem 🤔. Also, this problem seems very intermittent…it can go for days without happening, and then start up again.
Any thoughts would be appreciated. My mechanic seems at a loss.
