Key fob not working. Beeping and red key light on dash (2014 CX-9)
I went out to my 2014 CX-9 GT and noticed the key fob (4 button) wasn't opening the door. I peered in the window and noticed the clock information cluster (center of the dash) was glowing red and the clock was showing. It was on which didn't seem normal. The screen (original) for the radio also blinked once or twice.
I then removed the valet key from the fob and opened the door and was able to start the vehicle (without the key and fob inside the vehicle) and then shut off the engine after a minute. The red icon on the dash was blinking every second or two. *The dash warning light flashes and appears to be an icon that has a front view of a car with a lock overtop of it. It flashes red every second. I then exited the vehicle and got the multi-beep warning from the vehicle that alerts you that you are outside of the vehicle with the key. The engine was off. I was not able to use the fob still. I changed the battery with a new one in the fob and still found it not to work. Same issue.
I'm a newer Mazda owner (Honda before). This isn't normal, (I know) but how do I fix this one? The vehicle is from Carvana and is a 2014. The fob I used is an aftermarket (non-branded Mazda) but correct for a secondary fob. I have used it since last June. Any help is very kind. Thanks!

Thanks for responding. I have both key fobs (original) and third party and they both don’t work. It doesn’t matter whether I am on the driver’s side, passenger side, or rear lift ate. Both key fobs cannot unlock the vehicle from outside the vehicle. It appears the system believes the vehicle is on. The weirdest part is the clock display stays on and I’m concerned it’s going to drain the battery. Night time temps have been about 25 degrees with daytime at 45. Not sure if that matters at all. Tried most everything.

If the clock is still on them the system hasn't fully shut down, this will prevent the remotes from working. Find someone with a scan tool that displays live data, mainly the gear lever position switch. Its possible its malfunctioning and not telling the other systems its actually in park & can shut down.
Thanks for your help on this. That's a thing I will likely have the dealer check. Though...
UPDATE: Late last night the vehicle was back to normal with no issues. The temperature in our area went from about 25 degrees to 55 degrees in less than 12 hours and melted a decent amount of ice across the lower part of the windshield that had been sitting for days in the windshield wiper channel. I am not sure if a sensor was blocked or frozen but after melting it may have fixed the issue. I am going to watch it when we get more ice and snow later this week and see if it reoccurs. I looked at the exploded diagram view of the car (drawing) and noticed the remote antennas are all around different places of the vehicle and read that when one doesn't work they all may not work preventing access. Still weird that it thinks the key is in the vehicle when this happens. I'll keep an eye on and report anything else.
Thanks for your answers. They make perfect sense and I will keep them top of mind.

UPDATE: I took the vehicle to a local Mazda dealer's service center and they took a look. When I dropped it off the radio was staying on as was the clock display and couldn't be shut off. It was as though it was stuck in ACC mode. The service manager called today and stated that it is determined to be the Body Control Module that was causing the issue and it would be replaced. The vehicle is under an extended, third-party warranty so the warranty company will cover it. I am curious as to how much it will be. So, they stated the issue is the BCM (Body Control Module).
